Creole

Miche-Berly P., 12th grade, Bridge Academy

From the cotton fields

And sweat of our black ancestors,

From back lashing was born a beauty--

Creole.

A language born in slavery,

Born of pain,

Born for an escape,

A language that brought us together.

Creole--

Born of something outrageous,

Turned into a strength.

Spoken by our heroes

In their first battle and their last.

Creole--

A language that means

Freedom.
