Treasured Masterpiece
Regan Martin // Woodford County
Why should we want to scourge our softness to straight lines like a Mondrian painting? In our society, the perfect, almost impossible images of a woman completely blinds us to the true beauty that each person contains. Girls grow up with an ideal figure that may be completely different from the thighs, hips, or stomach that they were given. The pain and suffering that can spark from this wildfire completely controls a person, forcing her to live in a world of constant comparison and unhappiness. Some women are willing to starve themselves, cut away their happiness, and spend too many hours looking in the mirror thinking I am not good enough. In a society inspired by confidence and empowerment, these standards and images completely tear down all that we have built, making that woman, who we say can rise to the highest job level or fight the hardest battles imaginable, fall into a heap of sadness and despair. Each woman is a unique masterpiece that everyone should treasure, yet some of them want to completely transform and reshape themselves, creating something unrecognizable. The desire to live a healthy lifestyle is by no means negative, but the moment a woman starts thinking of life as a competition rather than a world of happiness is when her softness fades.
