The Void
Tessa Brengelman // Woodford County
Do you remember the day the world turned on its head?
When waterfalls flushed back
and everything went dead?
Do you remember life before all flowers were fake?
Before the sea of trash made us all ache?
Now we live in a world where colors are too expensive,
so our life is black and white
and not at all extensive.
The kerfuffle shuffle of
quagmires and barbed wires,
when every start must have a stop,
when we all face the chopping block.
When humans fled to some other home,
but it's all made of Styrofoam?
When the flame of our urge
lit up our purge
as we took in our vice
and breathed paradise.
And finally,
how we were so shocked and upset
to learn that the world ended
from our littered cigarette.
