Weighing of the Heart
Alexis Rich / West Jessamine
History rings the Bells of Truth
until it’s deafening
Moses heard the Bells
in Egypt
Anne discerned their voice
in Amsterdam
A noise that spurred Mary
in London
And resonated with King
in Birmingham
The Bells sever the Road.
When faced with the ensuing chasm
all are forced to jump
to reach for the safety of one side
or another
The side bearing the original road. The side of untrodden ground.
The comfort of the familiar Alienated from a past
sheltered by the masses unsure of a future
oblivious to the suffering to fight for the impossible
of the road now walked building a road of better design
