Perfection

Emily DeBold / Woodford County

Sharp teeth puncture unknowing hearts,

Lips move with a crooked grace.

The rumors are stowed in giant carts,

Hidden behind a pretty face.

The giggles down the hall,

The whispers at tables.

The late night cell phone call,

The placing of labels.

Eyes see what’s happening,

Ears long to hear.

Teeth crash with guilty thoughts,

Hearts ache in fear.

Peel the labels off,

Rip them in two.

Don't let them define you.

File their teeth with care,

Teach their lips to praise.

Carefully empty the carts,

Gently wash their face.

Their actions should not affect how you treat them.

Evil as they may be,

They were once like you and me.

Live your life freely,

Don't be afraid to leave a mark.

Care for those who care for you,

Do unto others as you would do to you.
