Road Work Ahead? Yeah, I Sure Hope It Does.

Small towns hold all of the allure. They’re sparkly, quaint, pretty little things, where no one exists and everyone lives. They flow with animation, soft congeniality and sweet greetings. Everyone knows everyone; no one is unknown. Versailles is a small town. It sits in its own delicate, rose-tinted bubble, filled with subtle beauty and protected from external horrors. The streets are lined with familiarity--with shops and restaurants and faces to which you’ve grown accustomed. Small towns are filled with things you’ve grown up with. They’re filled with comfort.

The magic of Versailles is subtle. That’s what it’s all about: subtlety. Other towns don’t have subtlety. Chicago, New York City, and even our own neighbor, Lexington, with whom we share paved roads littered with road work and traffic, don’t hold the acute loveliness Versailles does. That’s not to say Lexington isn’t charming, or even a place I’d love to live in--Lexington is overflowing with beautiful faces, glimmering souls, and winsome coffee shops with more character than anyone you’d meet in, say, Boise, Idaho. However, there’s something that isn’t quite there--because it’s in Versailles.

With every step you take through Versailles, you’re filled with more energy and a zest for the life which living here provides you. There’s a twinkle in the air, an overcast of shimmery beauty, a glitter that falls from the clouds alongside the rain. But, take precaution: blink once, and you’ll miss it.

There’s much more I could add about Versailles. Perhaps I could mention the giant Kroger that graces our paths, filled with friendly faces and everyone you’ve ever met, no matter what time of the day you visit. Maybe I should add the stretch of road that can take you anywhere you could ever possibly want to go--Waffle House, Subway, Napa Prime, K-Mart, or your choice of three different gas stations. I should probably fill you in on the less developed areas of Versailles: the beautiful creeks and streams, the big clock tower downtown, the multitude of places to practice your religion and worship...the list goes on. There’s never a dull moment here in Versailles, Kentucky, and anyone that tells you otherwise...well, they must’ve blinked.
