The Imbalance of Nature

Kalianna Burns / West Jessamine

A footstep can take you wherever you choose

And the encounters along the way

Can hold the keys to a new

And lead you astray

Your unmarked territory

Yet unrightful to claim

How the discovery resides

And keeps hidden so high

Among the midst of everything

Oh, how peaceful they reside

Only out to survive

At the stake of nature’s

Grace

How mistakably merciful I was

To disrupt the place

To make things right

The key to Nature is Nature indeed

But the heart of the living

Share the empathy of need

How foolish I was

To claim an animal's surprise

And disrupt the home

Of something once so leavened

Now I behold regret

Due to the decision I made

To put the hatchlings down

Before they could ever reach

The ground
