The Happy Accident
At one point in time, there were no stories. There was nothing to help a young child fight the tremors of the dark and sleep through the night, and nothing to weave and entertain the masses. Sometimes, if you were lucky something interesting enough happened that pure facts could create the like of a story. But, never, were there ever any fantastical stories to take the mind from reality.
One day, there was an Accident in The Place Where The Facts Are Stored. The Place Where The Facts Are Stored was a monstrously tall building that held files and files and files of facts from the Life. Facts from the Life were the everyday happenings of the people of Wendellton put into the flowing language of Files. These facts were stored for Wendellton so that you could see things from The Past and learn from them for The Future. So, you could imagine what may happen if, while they are being sorted and stored, the Files are dropped.
When the Files were dropped, The Place Where The Facts Are Stored went absolutely crazy; the Storer that dropped them saw the pages come together and collide in a wonderful, rainbow array of colors. You could see the red and green and blue smog seeping from the windows, this smoke was coming from the mix of papers from separate Files on the ground. The Files smoked and sparked and the smoke wafted across Wendellton like tie dye. When looking at The Place Where The Facts Are Stored you could see the colorful air inside the building, colors so vibrant they had never been seen before. This was coming from the mixing of Facts, which had never happened before because all Facts were kept separate. Just like chemical reactions can create smoke and color, the reaction of the Files did the same. This gave way to a wondrous something new: a story.
When the red and blue and green stopped seeping from the File, the Storer picked up a new File; it was organized and all the pages were neatly folded and bound, like a book. This new and organized File told of things that the people of Wendellton had never heard of. The new File explained more than just Facts, it told of mystical and fantastical events, this new File was called a Story.
