Volley-ball: My Passion, My Strength

If there is one thing that has held a great significance for me, it’s my time spent playing volleyball.

I remember I was in primary school; I was eight years old. I used to stay at volleyball practice every day, which meant approximately ten hours per week. Nevertheless, when we had to play a game, I was on reserve. I worked hard because I wanted to play as well as the team’s first starters. In a few months, I had progressed a lot, and my coaches decided to let me play. On that first game, I was so nervous that I didn’t feel anything. Nevertheless, I played such a great game that the whole team was proud of me. Since that day I have worked harder and harder. My dad was always there to support; he was my number one fan.

Unfortunately, a terrible earthquake hit my country on January 12, 2010. My school was seriously damaged; my dad passed away some days later and I stopped practicing volleyball. However, two years after, I started again because volleyball was one of the daily activities that gave me strength. I remembered my first game, how proud of me my father was, and what an important part of my life volleyball was. I have not stopped playing ever since.

I really love playing volleyball and being part of my school’s volleyball team. I have made a lot of progress; I have received a lot of support and love from my coaches and teammates. This first game taught me not to be afraid, to move forward, and to have the courage to pursue my dreams.
