Alyssa Scherk

Alyssa started drawing at a very young age. When she was little, her mom would do daily crafts with her, which sparked her interested in art.

From her early days of finger painting Alyssa has grown as an artist with a special interest on layers and repetition that usually accompanies them.. Before she started working on her portfolio, she had to think of things that portrayed layers. Whether it be layers of a cake, layers of petals in flowers, or layers of color in hair, they’re all pleasing to Alyssa.

Alyssa’s main inspirations are Thomas Kinkade and Georgia O’Keefe, who are both known for painting with vibrant colors. While Alyssa draws inspiration from these artists, she always seeks to create a truly unique piece of art that captures her unique perspective.

Her hope for the future is to go to an art school to better herself and continue painting.

Chase Smith

Chase started his art career when he was very young. He was a very driven child; for example, if he wanted a coloring book, he would create his own. His early inspiration was his grandfather, an artist, who painted, drew, and made things out of wood.

His typical subject is marine art. He loves to illustrate the majestic creatures that live in the ocean and in the caverns of coral reefs and shipwrecks.

His inspiration comes from the physical attributes of the ocean. He loves to observe the bioluminescent jellyfish, the jaws of sharks, and the masses of different fish that thrive in the vibrant colors of the coral reefs. The concept that a whole community lies submerged underwater fascinates him.

His hopes for the future are to be a marine biologist, with art taking the passenger seat. He believes diving in the depths of the ocean to be his true calling. He excites at the idea of taking photographs of and studying the amazing creatures and later creating sketches of these in his spare time.

Janet Dake

Her earliest memories of her life with art are holding a crayon, drawing stick figures and finger painting.

The subject she most often paints is people. Generally, Janet is a portrait artist. She loves to paint people in motion, like athletes, but especially ballerinas.

She's very inspired by successful female artists today, like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. Both women broke into the harsh world of fame and entertainment, and yet they use their art to convey important messages to our society today (pertaining to girls and feminism).

Janet wants to go into a creative field. While she doesn't know exactly what, she's certain there's a career with an outlet for her. She feels that people don't understand the amount of intellect that goes into creative careers, and that's a perception she wishes to change.

Sydney Buck

Sydney started art when she was very young. She enjoyed watching her pencil dance on the paper and she enjoyed how beautiful shapes came from it. It fascinated her young mind and she grew to have a passion for the pencil, paper, and paints.

Her subject matter is usually fantasy. She loves bright colors and mythical things.

Color inspires her the most. She thinks it is the simplest form of inspiration, yet the most powerful. She loves that a single color can evoke specific emotions, for example sadness created by the color blue or happiness by the color yellow.

Her future consists of BCTC and EKU. She hopes to make her future completely based on art, because over the years, it has been the only constant in her ever-changing palette of interests
