The Colors of My Home
I am from the green country.
I am from the city that has two carnivals a year.
I am from a place where 100 gourdes(1) can get you a plate of fritay (2).
I am from a place that has multicolored tap-taps (3) everywhere.
I am from a place with beautiful waterfalls like Bassin Bleu (4).
I am from the city with trash all over the place.
I am from a place where we don’t respect the law.
I am from a country with almost no electricity.
I am from a place where kids are free to ride a motorcycle.
I am from a country with a lot of slum cities.
I am from a place that has red soil
and black people.
I love my green, blue, red, black country,
And I am NOT ashamed.
