I Am From
The hammock in the back yard,
My mom yelling loud and hard,
She lost her bag, just like all the other nights.
My house’s roof top where I gaze at the moonlight,
Red and blue colors of my flag,
I’m not trying to brag.
Life could be better,
My parents could say
Yes to more stuff
Dad could stop saying « go ask your mom »
Mom could stop saying “pye ou poudre ; al chita.” (1)
Welcome to Haiti. Have a good day.
Na wè pita…(2)
1. Too much running around; go sit down. (In Haitian Creole)
2. See you later. (In Haitian Creole)
