I Am From…

 

I am from the sunshine state,

Where the palm trees sway in every which way,

Where the sunshine beams are pretty extreme.

 

But now I live in Haiti, “Mon petit pays”, (1)  

A place where you have to be happy with what you have,

Even though some people don’t have a lot.

 

I am from beaming with joy when the crème maïs(2) guy comes,

I am from Saturday afternoons chilling with Coralie,

I am from drinking Cola Couronne and eating Bonbon Salix.

 

I am from going to Jacmel(3) every vacation,

Where the beaches are just perfection,

And eating fritay (4) is an obsession.

 

I am from this country known as “Haiti”.
